May 23rd-26th Otsuchi Cho Part 2 : Work Activity – Otsuchi Cho

The next day after the soup kitchen, we continued going to Otsuchi cho and registered for cleaning up the damage at the volunteer center, and so we did. The place where we went was Sakuragi cho. We thought we would clean up the dirt, but when we arrived, we noticed that cleaning up the dirt and rubbles had been done. We cleaned the windows and shutters mainly at the house where we helped.

We didn’t get a chance to use wheelbarrows we bought for works this time, but during the activity, pastor Tomoko Kikuchi could have time to talk with an old lady who lived by herself. At the end, we were able to pray together with her.

When we finished cleaning in the morning, it started raining, but it stopped during the lunch break. In the afternoon, we cleaned up the dirt out of the ditches alongside the Sakuragi cho center and cleaned also trashes and the rubbles in the surrounding area. Even though the time in the afternoon was limited, we could finish most of the part in a short period of time since the area was very small and there were other volunteers who joined together with us.

In the night after returning, we had a time of sharing, and pastor Kawai shared the Word a little. The next day, we again had a time to pray and fellowship at Rikuzentakata Christ Church. After that, we were welcomed at the base camp of Samaritan’s Purse, and they introduced their facilities to us. Then, we were able to head back to our home safely. (Since we left a little later than our schedule, everyone got home around midnight though….)

As many as 14 people could go this time, and I am thankful that everything was in protection. Thank you very much for all your prayers.

On the way to Rikuzentakata city, we could see the field where we cleaned up the rubbles as a part of the activities from April 19th to 23rd. When we saw there this time, some rice plants had been already planted. So, we were happy.

Between lunch and dinner which we prepared, I checked to see if the relief supplies that we bought with your offerings and JCOG sent to the supply center of Otsuchi cho disaster headquarters had arrived there. Also, I had a talk with the pastors of JCOG about the relief supplies that would be sent from the States next time.
